Check the Physical E-Stop Button
This sounds obvious but is the most common cause: the E-stop mushroom button is pressed (and latched). Twist the button clockwise to release it. On some machines there are multiple E-stops โ€” check the pendant, panel, and any remote stops.
Older E-stop buttons develop worn springs and can partially latch without being fully pressed. If releasing and re-pressing doesn't fix it, replace the E-stop switch.

Inspect E-Stop Wiring at Controller
Trace the E-stop wiring from the button(s) to the controller input terminal. Check for: loose terminal screws, broken wires (especially at button strain relief), and corroded contacts. The E-stop circuit is often wired as Normally Closed (NC) โ€” a broken wire reads as E-stop triggered.
On RichAuto controllers: E-stop is wired to the EStop or INP terminal. Verify the wiring is NC (connected when button is released, open when pressed). If your machine triggers E-stop randomly, check for wire breaks first.

Check Safety Relay / Contactor
Many CNC machines route the E-stop through a safety relay (e.g., Pilz, Schneider, or generic DIN-rail relay). This relay must be reset after an E-stop event. Find the relay in the electrical cabinet โ€” it usually has a RESET or TEST button. Press RESET to re-energize.
A safety relay that won't reset (LED stays red) means the E-stop circuit is still open somewhere. Trace the full circuit โ€” button โ†’ relay โ†’ controller โ†’ back to relay.

Check Servo / Drive Fault Signals
On machines with servo drives: a servo alarm can trigger the E-stop circuit. Check each servo drive display for fault codes. Clear servo alarms first (see servo alarm guide), then try resetting E-stop. The E-stop won't clear until all drives are fault-free.
Servo drives with STO (Safe Torque Off) inputs are especially common on newer UAE machines. If the STO signal is missing, the drive holds the E-stop in. Check the STO wiring.

Check Enclosure Door Interlocks
Some CNC machines have door interlock switches โ€” opening the enclosure door triggers E-stop. If the door switch is misaligned or faulty, the machine thinks the door is always open. Check the interlock switch position and test with I/O diagnostics.
If you removed the enclosure door or covers during maintenance, re-check all interlock switch positions and verify they're making contact properly.

Verify Controller E-Stop Input Logic
On RichAuto and similar controllers, the E-stop input polarity can be configured (NC = alarm when open, NO = alarm when closed). An incorrect polarity setting means the machine is always in E-stop. Check System Parameters โ†’ Input port settings โ†’ EStop polarity.
Default E-stop polarity on RichAuto is NC (Normally Closed). If someone changed this parameter, restore it to NC.
